The year of the horse

Feb 9, 2014

Part 1: The day before chinese new year, Mandy hosted a hot pot meal over at her place. It was nice meeting new people and eating yummy food. There was ten of us and it was funny how we took over the whole kitchen. Her flatmates were probably annoyed, but apparently they do the same thing without telling her, so it's only fair if we do it too haha. After hot pot, we had dessert and talked til one in the morning.

Part 2: I wonder how many chinese people skipped lectures that Friday? Being a good girl, I still went to lectures. Anyway, that night, I went back to Birmingham to go to Kream chinese new year clubbing party with three friends. I didn't want to go at first because the weather was raining so bad, but I'm glad I went. Surprisingly, I met a few guys there (haha no comment) and I really enjoyed the party and had great fun.

Part 3: Having only been to the chinese new year celebrations in Birmingham, I really wanted to experience what it was like in London China town. On Sunday, my friends and I took the train and the tube down to Leicester Square. As expected, there was so many people, which I can only described as 人山人海, "people mountain people sea". Good use of my chinese learning there. Because it was so crowded and we were so short, we couldn't see the lion dance and decided to give up for food instead. Turns out the lion dancers goes around each shop, so whilst waiting in HK diner restaurant, we were able to see the lion dance performance and I managed to snap some good pictures.

Since we were at China town and it was chinese new year, it only seemed right to eat chinese food instead of fast food like McDonalds. The waiting time was understandably long but luckily we got seated rather promptly. At that time, we were kind of glad that Maria and Yong Xue couldn't come or else we would have waited forever for a large table. I ordered fried beef ho fun with gravy and a mango bubble tea and it tasted amazing.

The chinese astrology says that 2014 is a good year for people born in the dog year. Yay for that, but of course I must still work hard!

"Destiny is for losers. It's just a stupid excuse to wait for things to happen instead of making them happen."
